Molar bands that are also known as orthodontic bands. These bands are rings that are used around your back teeth called molars when braces are applied. They are used by orthodontics to give a good anchor to the archwire that runs along the span of the braces. How do they Work?
For installing a fitted band there are two appointments. To determine the size of the teeth a dental impression of the patient’s teeth is made. Spacers are used to create a gap at the first appointment and bands are fitted and placed at the second appointment. The whole process involves, firstly, orthodontists insert elastic separators between teeth where bands are fitted and determine the approximate size of teeth. In between the time of two appointments teeth will start to move apart. In the next appointment, these separators are removed and bands are adjusted as required and tested for the correct size. If the size of the band is perfect then with the help of dental adhesive these are secured after polishing teeth.
The band remains at that place during your whole treatment and it helps in correcting your teeth alignment with gradual movement. After your orthodontic treatment, you must take care of many things. You must avoid eating things like popcorn, ice cream, and chocolates. Stop eating chewing gum and toffee. Stay away from eating these things that might stick to your teeth.
